Have your camper inspected for head lice two weeks prior to departure, and again immediately before camp begins. We inspect each camper’s head upon arrival to camp. If lice treatment is necessary, we will bill parents at a cost of up to $250 per camper. Alternately, you may bring your camper home and treat them there, then bring them back once all is clear.

We hope you know how seriously Eden Village takes quality of life issues here at camp, one of which is lice. Lice present absolutely no health danger, yet they are a nuisance that we address according to the American Camping Association guidelines for top-tier overnight camps.

Campers are screened by camp staff for lice when they arrive at Eden Village, and may be screened again if we feel they may have come in contact with lice. If one child is found to have lice, our policy is to screen everyone in the bunk.

If your child is found by our nurses to have lice at any point, you have two choices. You can pick up your child from camp, treat them at home, and bring them back to camp when they are lice-free. Our nurse will meet you near the office to discreetly check your child.

Your second option is to use the outside company with which we contract, BuggHeads, which will treat your child for lice here at camp. BuggHeads will do a complete comb out using all natural products, return three days later to do a second comb out (if camp is still in session), and then return a week later for a third comb out (if camp is still in session). Your child will be expected to comb themselves during the intervening days with the supplies provided by BuggHeads.

BuggHeads charges between $200 - $250 for this service, depending on how many times they see your child. If your child will already be home by the second or third treatment, the price will be lower,  although it is essential to ensure treatment effectiveness that you follow up yourself or with another, local company. You can learn about BuggHeads on their website by clicking here.

In addition, Eden Village will purchase a new pillow, hairbrush, comb and baseball cap for your child and charge your account accordingly. BuggHeads and Eden Village can’t accept responsibility for recontacted cases due to the fluid nature of contraction.
